24 Hours of Twitter: 08-08-08

24 hours of TwitterOver the past few months, I have to admit I've become a bit of a Twitter addict. One of the things I've come to really love about Twitter is its 24-hour, international nature. No matter when I'm online, somebody is talking, and I can connect in real time with professionals all over the world.

So, to celebrate Twitter and my international friends, I've decided to ring in 08-08-08 (I also love fortuitous dates) by spending 24 straights hours on Twitter. I'm going to wish every time zone a "Happy 08-08-08!". Since I live in Chicago and we're on U.S. Central Daylight Time, my calculations show that I'll be on Twitter from 7:00am Thursday (8-7) until 7:00am Friday (8-8), local time.

How to Participate

Of course, this won't be any fun if I do it by myself, and would sort of miss the entire point of social media. So, here's how you can join me:

  • Spend the whole 24 hours on Twitter with me
  • Follow me on Twitter @dr_pete any time during the 24 hours
  • Tweet me periodically to make sure I'm awake
  • Wish random people from other time zones "Happy 08-08-08!"
  • Tag your 08-08-08 themed Twitter posts with #080808

Mix and match those as you please, or make up your own. Tell your friends and think happy thoughts about Twitter solving its technical problems in the next month (otherwise, I'll probably be celebrating 09-09-09 on Plurk).

Sounds great! I will be in party mode in Berlin at the time but I am sure that I will pop in and say hi! In fact, I am am putting it in my agenda.

@Peter - Thanks... I felt like I should have done something for 07-07-07 (7 is my lucky number, for whatever that's worth), so I thought I'd do something unique for 08-08-08.

What are you gonna do if it's one of the days where twitter has a 50% uptime? :)

@Matt - I'm trying not to think about it :) I honestly thought about doing this on another platform but figured I'd give Twitter one more chance.

What does your wife think about this idea?

I think I'm supposed to go to some fortuitous party that night. But I promise I'll drop in via iPhone occasionally to ensure you're well on your way to insanity.

A bit of a Twitter addict? No worries.

Looking forward to your 8/8/08 greeting!

@MikeTek - My wife gave me the "You're crazy, but I'm used to it" look ;) She works for Microsoft, so she's pretty understanding about these things.

@ColonelTribune - I do get a little carried away sometimes :)

Shouldn't you start at 12:00am CST on 8/8 and go until 12:00am on 8/9 so you can spend ALL day celebrating 8/8/8?

Dr. Pete

@Casey - The reason for the odd schedule is that I wanted to ring in the start of the day at 12:00am in each time zone. Of course, I'm going to have to stay awake at least until 08:08:08am CST on 08-08-08, so I guess it's 25 hours and 8 minutes :)

I'll be at a Leadership Summit for 8 of those hours and will Twitter tidbits learned. How fun! It will be exciting to see the coverage.

You've chosen a special day: National Search Engine Optimizers Day is on 08-08-08! Dana Larson made it up on Twitter 2 weeks ago. We collaborated, bought domains and put up a very temporary site this weekend. I felt we weren't ready to go prime time until our blog and design were ready, but... Let's tweet about how we can showcase both efforts. Maybe we could pull in your 24 Hours of Twitter tweets on the upcoming blog?

The goal is to raise awareness of SEO and the power of Social Media, get industry involvement, and by next year raise money for an SEO scholarship program.

We'll tweet support to keep you awake!

@Dana - That sounds great: I didn't even know we had a National SEO Day. I'd be happy to be involved somehow.
